Is it ethical to retreat?
In today's world we have families surviving on food banks, political and societal division, and a Climate Emergency.
Can it therefore be considered ethical to go on a retreat where the purpose is to literally retreat from these things and ignore them for a few days? It's one thing to criticise mindfulness for encouraging a lack of activism, but whether you agree with that criticism or not, retreats are clearly the opposite of taking action.
I have to go on retreat this year as past of my masters degree. And I can't afford to go on a protest and be arrested even if I deem it to be highly ethical to rebel for the natural environment. I guess I'll be retreating at some point this year anyway.
